How to Trade the FOMC 123 Trade

Hubert Senters here. Let’s take a look at how to trade the FOMC. This is a question from Dawn M and he wants to know how to trade the FOMC so one way that I like to do it now I won’t trade bonds. I know FOMC just because it’s a little too squarely to do that. What I will do is I’ll trade index futures because there is a predictable pattern I can take advantage of so it’s called the FOMC 123 Trade. It’s going to work like this at 2 o’clock. They’re going to say something about the bonds. So we’re going to use this little zero here the circle as our point of the FOMC so at 2 o’clock the market is going to do one of two things. It’s either going to initially go up. Oh, I don’t like that color hold on, it’s too white on black. It looks a little bit better. It’s either going to go up then pullback and then go up again. So this is going to be move one, that’s going to be move to and this is going to be move three so at the beginning of three you’re going to get long. Now, I use the same as tactics for this. I’m going to use a 20 point stop-loss on the Dow. And then I’m going to scale out every 10 to 20 points so 10, 20, 30, 40, 50 so soon as I’m plus 10 I’m going to sell half of my position and then I’ll move my stop from minus 20 to break even since I’m up plus 20 I’ll sell one quarter and then I’ll have a quarter left as a runner. That’s on all these trades. Now that is for FOMC release initial knee jerk reaction is up pull back and retrace. Now notice how the pullback from 2 to 3 didn’t take out point 1. It can also do this it can go up, down and then up. The only difference between 1, 2 and 3 is this retracement from 2 to 3 took out point 1. The initial reaction but that still is a long right there, X or it’ll do this. It’ll go down, up, down. It’s still 1 to 3. You’re going to short it right there with the same rules or it’ll do this down up down one to three I’m going to short it right there. Pretty simple, right. I usually use a two minute chart on the YM in order to do this trade. You can also do in the S&P. I’ve seen people do it on the Nasdaq too. But for me it’s a two minute chart for the FOMC 123 trade. Hi Hubert, I watched you doing this over twenty years ago. You were seeing the prices moving in waves and went long and short at exactly the right times. I videoed what you were doing and watched it several times but could still not see what you were seeing.

That was a few PCs ago and my filing system isn’t perfect so I can’t find that video. I was wondering if you happened to have any footage of you doing that ?

I think that sort of thing could get you quite a few followers on youtube.

    Hope all is well.

    Regards, Eric
