How to Use the TICKs

Hubert Senters here. Let’s take a look at index futures. This is a 2 minute chart. The Dow and 1 minute chart of the tick. So one of the most important things if you trade index futures which I know you guys already do. And this works for the Dow, S&P, Nasdaq, Russell. Nadsaq has its own tick. And it’s right here to the right you can really see it. I don’t use as much as I use the actual tick, the NYC tick so. As you can see here the Dow gapped up, pushed higher, pulled back 50 percent and it’s now pushing higher and as I’m recording it just a little bit lower. I mean it’s rolling over a little bit. Knows what the ticks did. It opened up at a thousand and as the ticks work their way towards the zero line the Dow pulled back slightly about 50 percent and then it ramp up. Now, notice how the ticks are slightly negative right now at $182. The Dow is rolling over a little bit. The ticks are making a new low but the price of the Dow is not making a new low. It’s called the divergents. And you would think if the ticks making a new low the Dow would be making a new low from the day and you’d be corrected it’s usually how it works. But you got to slight disconnect between the price of the Dow and the tick action. Now, couple of tips. Even on a negative day the ticks will sometimes be more positive than negative but overall the price action on the Dow is going ticks. I really don’t care what you’re doing. I want to go higher. So pay attention to both of them and you can compare and contrast these things in real time to let you know if the market should be going higher, lower or about the same.
