Difference Between Live and Simulated Trading

Hubert Senters here. Got a question from Richard. I am investigating trading the ES mini’s. I have been sim trading while I get comfortable with the flow of the market and determining specific trading patterns to look for. What if any are the differences between trading live and simulation? Both are real data will the market behave any differently than simulation? No. It will probably be really accurate as far as the way it moves. You will lose your mind though. I’m talking from experience like most startup, pay-per-trade and then the demo trade. And then you get thrust into the real markets. And the markets are the same. It’s just you will be different for one major reason because now you will be trading live money in the market. So you have scan in the game and you will be scared shitless.  Or you will get too excited and get profits too quick. The difference between I guess it’s kind of like being in the fight. If you’ve ever been in a fight you’re scared to death before getting the fight. And then after the fight is over and you’re like it’s not too bad or it’s terrible because you got beat down. It’s kind of like everybody’s got a plan until you get hit on the face. Simulation with fake money is totally different than trading real money in the real markets. Real money is at risk and you can and will either make or lose a lot of money so. The real problem is you’re going to think that you’re going to demo the trade the same way you would when you trade with the real money and it’s never really the case. There’s always a gap that has to be crossed there. So the overall simulation is a nice ideal and it’s good. And you should do it to learn how to execute the trades into practice. And it’s a good thing but it’s hard really close to the same thing. You will be terrified, scared, excited all at the same time. You will do some stupid stuff while you have money on the line. That’s just the straight gist of it. You’re going to be like a catch shit and raise your blades. You’re going to be nervous. I’m trying to figure out as me analogies that I can for you. It’s going to be different so good luck with it. But you’re doing the right thing. You’re approaching it the right way. The real way is to find good market that fit you personality wise and that you fit personality wise. The S&P may or may not be it. It might be crude oil. It might be gold futures. It might be bond futures. It might be corn futures. It might be wheat futures. I don’t know. Keep trying. I like your approach and you’re asking the right questions but simulation versus the real market is totally different creature just because you have real money at risk. And that’s how it goes. Hubert,

    I’d tell Richard to trade 1 share, any $20.00 or less share from the NASDAQ. He’ll be trading with real money and if he’s wrong he’ll only lose $20.00 max.
    I’d also tell him if he can’t make a profit trading 1 share at a time he’ll never make a profit trading 100.

    Later;
